Black Phenotype
The coat color phenotype of "Black" is fairly self-explanatory. Black horses are characterized by having black hair, dark skin pigmentation, black mane and tail, dark colored hooves, and brown eyes. To be considered true black, the horse may not have any brown hairs on its muzzle or flanks. White markings may be present, but are generally minimal.
Raven Black horses are entirely black with no white patches present.
Summer Black horses have extremely black colored hairs in the summer, but during the winter, when the coat grows fuller, a brown tint may be present on the hairs.
